Omega19x: *Kura is either still asleep or who knows where.*
ph33r my rod: *glances over at the clock, then groans and sits up, rubbing his eyes* "...guh."
Omega19x: *still out cold next to you*
ph33r my rod: *reaches over and shakes Ryou's shoulder* "Ryou... wake up, it's almost noon..." *sniffle*
Omega19x: *no motion*
ph33r my rod: "... Ryou?" *shakes him again*
Omega19x: *nada*
ph33r my rod: "..." *checks for a pulse*
Omega19x: *there is one. pretty faint though.*
Omega19x: *and irregular... hmm*
ph33r my rod: *and then he sees the light* "...oh shit."
Omega19x: (and there's the Malik-like command of language we know and love)

ph33r my rod: *springs out of bed, tripping and falling on a sock that was laying in the floor. After picking himself up, he hauls ass downstairs and tells the situation to Isis - with everything that happened to him, Ryou's pacemaker has either stopped or is malfunctioning, and he needs to go to a hospital, not Uno though, any other one in the city but that. He runs back upstairs and quickly bundles up the best he can, then carefully lifts Ryou out of the bed, wrapping him up in one of the thick blankets*
Omega19x: *slowly blinks, half coming to*
Omega19x: (so we're off to skipbo hospital instead, I guess?)
ph33r my rod: (( XD Yeah. ))
Omega19x: "..mm...hm?"
Omega19x: *weak groan*
ph33r my rod: *carries him downstairs, trying not to look as panicked as he is* "...'morning?"
Omega19x: "...w..what's... going on?" *gasping cough*
ph33r my rod: "Um..." *tries to think of how he can word it so it won't worry Ryou* "We're gonna run up to the hospital - not the one you work at though, a different one - 'cause we should probably see how your pacemaker's doing... y'know... just to be safe."
Omega19x: "... no... shocking?"
Omega19x: "... real... good."
Omega19x: *he sounds as if he's actually gasping for breath.*
ph33r my rod: *getting in Isis' car, which has been oh-so-graciously sitting and warming up for the last few minutes* "Has it been shocking you at all since the other day...?"
Omega19x: *weakly shakes his head*
Omega19x: "...no..."
ph33r my rod: "...okay, that doesn't sound good."
Omega19x: *as soon as he's in the seat, he's asleep again, or passed out, with Ryou, it's hard to tell the difference*

ph33r my rod: (( For the record, we can assume Malik's still holding on to him. 8D ))

ph33r my rod: (( Because Malik sucks at driving things other than the motorbike, and Isis wouldn't let him drive anyway because of what happened to her car the last tme. ;D ))

Omega19x: *arriving at Skipbo Hospital, at the other end of town*
ph33r my rod: *out of car, into hospital, trying not to panic, etc - we can just assume Isis is staying in the waiting room*
Omega19x: "What's the nature of your emergency?" *doctor on call*
ph33r my rod: "Uh... malfunctioning pacemaker?"
Omega19x: "How long as the device been implanted? When did it start malfunctioning? DId it give any warnings, low bettery indications, or anything of that nature?"
Omega19x: *is already listening to Ryou's heart and all that jazz*
Omega19x: *a nurse pops in the door* "We don't have any records on a Mr. Bakura Ryou, sir." *turns to Malik* "Have you been here before?"
ph33r my rod: "... Uh..." *shakes head*
ph33r my rod: (( *is actually having to check when it was installed* ))
Omega19x: "Do you have contact information for a physician, so we can get a copy of his medical history?"
ph33r my rod: "..." *so doesn't know whether to actually tell them or not*
Omega19x: (well, without any real information, they don't know the prior settings of the icd, any other complications, etc)
ph33r my rod: (( Point. XD ))
Omega19x: (and Malik doesn't know that info, really.)
Omega19x: (hell, I doubt if Ryou knows.)
ph33r my rod: "He has records up at Uno Hospital...?"
Omega19x: "Okay, I'll get them faxed over immeidately."
Omega19x: *nurse goes off*
ph33r my rod: *sighs and hopes they don't freak out*
Omega19x: *is continuing to check over Ryou, disturbed at the abnormal breathing sounds as well.*
ph33r my rod: "It was implanted a little over two months ago. It may have been... not working... for the last couple of days, but we only discovered that this morning."
Omega19x: "Has he been ill for a while? On any current medications? Or has he recently become sick?"
ph33r my rod: (( When has he not been ill? *kicked* ))
Omega19x: (*roundhouse to head*)
ph33r my rod: "Uh... he's been really sick in the past, I dunno how many medications he's been on lately, and as far as I know, he's just got a cold right now."
ph33r my rod: "...kinda doesn't have a spleen, too."
Omega19x: *walks out into the hall, unnerved at that statement* "Nurse, I want a chest x-ray as soon as you finish that call."
Omega19x: "has he had all the proper vaccinations?"
ph33r my rod: "Uhhh... I think so? And then some?"
Omega19x: *nurse walks back in* "I talked to a Dr. Shogi. They're faxing the most relevant records over immediately. And he insists on coming by himself."
ph33r my rod: "...aw fuck."
Omega19x: "He's already ordered a series of blood tests."
Omega19x: 'he wants samples taken before he arrives, sir."
ph33r my rod: "He doesn't need to be tested anymore."
Omega19x: "Do you want me to do that?"
Omega19x: "I want a chest x-ray, Lianne. If he wants blood tests, he can do them when we're finished diagnosing our patient."
Omega19x: "And I want the model number, and all relevant information on the pacemaker."
Omega19x: "Yes sir. Right away sir."
Omega19x: *rushes off with Ryou.*
Omega19x: "You seem unhappy to hear the mention of the other doctor. Should I be concerned?"
ph33r my rod: "Aside from the fact that he's been harassing Ryou since he started working there, taking unnecessary samples from him, and being a general asshole, no, not really."
Omega19x: *blinks* "Is Ryou.. Is he the same person that's been mentioned in the papers recently?"
ph33r my rod: "Um... define 'recently'."
Omega19x: "Yesterday."
Omega19x: "hence, Bakura's disease?"
ph33r my rod: *sighs and nods*
Omega19x: *blinks* "I can see why he wanted those blood tests."
ph33r my rod: "Yeah, but... that's gone now. He's been taking samples and coming up with nothing, and he's kept on doing it in hopes that he will."
Omega19x: "Nurse, I want the blood samples Dr. Shogi ordered for Bakura Ryou. But just one set should be sufficient. Not the total he wants."
Omega19x: "With his medical history and current symptoms, a blood screening for Bakura's disease is a must."
Omega19x: *probaby shouldn't have added that last part aloud, since it just made several other doctors and nurses nervous*
ph33r my rod: *sigh* "Fine. But you're not going to find anything except a cold virus."
Omega19x: "I have the faxes, sir." *nurse returns with Ryou, a set of x-rays, and a device used to reprogram icd units*
Omega19x: "Good. We can easily reprogram the ICD," *puts the device at Ryou's chest, and starts punching buttons* "Though, how it got deprogrammed, I have no idea."
Omega19x: "It would have to be an extremely high electromagnetic field, and I don't know what would cause something like that around Domino City."
Omega19x: *Ryou can feel a heavy shock as soon as it comes back online*
Omega19x: "... th..that feels familiar..." *coughs*
ph33r my rod: *relieved sigh*
Omega19x: *a familiar quack-in-the-box arrives, and loudly demands to see Bakura Ryou.*
Omega19x: (heh, quack in the box. I crack myself up)
ph33r my rod: (( *dead* XD ))
ph33r my rod: "...don't let him see Ryou."
Omega19x: *nurse has stopped him* "He's in the examining room right now, I'm afraid you'll have to wait."
Omega19x: "Excuse me? I want my samples."
Omega19x: "Our team is looking at them."
Omega19x: "I demand to see them, or him, this instant."
Omega19x: *another nurse returns with the sample* "All blood tests are negative for Bakura's disease."
Omega19x: "Though, white blood cell count is high, so there is an infection present."
Omega19x: "I want those samples tested again, in my presence."
Omega19x: 'Sir, they tested negative."
Omega19x: "I want them collected again."
Omega19x: "..." *nurse runs back into the room* "He doesn't trust our tests. What should I do?"
ph33r my rod: *mutters to self*
Omega19x: "Lianne. And I want you to quote me on this directly... Tell him to Fuck Off."
ph33r my rod: *blink blink*
ph33r my rod: "Seconded."
Omega19x: "x-rays show a quickly developing case of pneumonia. Likely viral in nature, since he's been vaccinated against many of the bacterial strains. There is no evidence of Bakura's disease, and I don't want him scaring everyone in this fucking hospital."
Omega19x: "yes sir."
Omega19x: *goes back out there* "Dr. Shogi. Fuck off."
Omega19x: *and the nurse seems quite pleased with herself.*

Omega19x: "Ryou, cough for me, so I can get a sample of your sputum, then we can decide what treatment will work best for you."
Omega19x: *weakly nods, and coughs, much like he's been doing for a couple days now*
Omega19x: *calls once again for the nurse to have the sample analyzed*
Omega19x: "Shogi is a real prick sometimes." *mutters to himself.* "Excuse me, but graduated from the same medical school, in the same class. I've known him for years."
ph33r my rod: *blink blink* "... Wow."
Omega19x: "Frankly, I don't care for his methods, I don't care for his technique, and I don't care about how many times he gets published. Thoug he does."
Omega19x: *studying the x-rays again, checking to see if there was anything he missed*
ph33r my rod: "Well, that makes sense. He's been testing Ryou so much in hope of finding anything that he can submit something to the journals." *eyeroll*
Omega19x: "Given the famous case history, I can understand why. But patients have rights too."
ph33r my rod: "..." *likes this place*
Omega19x: "What's most important right now is getting this young man the proper treatment for the pneumonia. It could become a very dangerous infection if left untreated."
ph33r my rod: *nods*
Omega19x: (and I should have researched a bit more yesterday...)
ph33r my rod: (( Oi? ))
Omega19x: (well, the drug I was planning on using is generally not prescribed to adults, and I didn't realize that. So, I'm looking for a similar one)
ph33r my rod: (( Oh. :o ))
Omega19x: *gets some test results back in, and thinks about the best course to take*
ph33r my rod: *waits semi-patiently*
Omega19x: "Since the tests aren't coming back completely clear, we're going to attack it from two angles - with an antibiotic, Telithromycin, and an antiviral, Ribavirin. Just to be on the safe side."
ph33r my rod: "..." *tries to understand, fails miserably* "Okay."
Omega19x: "Though, wait. Let me look through your chart again. With heart rhythms like yours, Telithromycin might be dangerous."
Omega19x: "We'll use clarithromycin instead, along with the Ribavirin"
ph33r my rod: "...'kay, whatever works." *blink*
Omega19x: *weak nod*
Omega19x: "Okay, your records show you've been prescribed both of these before, with no ill effects."
Omega19x: "You might still have some of this leftover from the last time it was prescribed, but take this kind. It's of a different strength than your records show."
Omega19x: *weak nod, followed by coughing*
Omega19x: "And we'll give you Ribavirin in an inhilation form. The oral form may make your heart problems worse."
Omega19x: 'But many of those same problems are not present when it is inhaled."
Omega19x: "If things do not improve in a week, I want you back in here immediately. If there are any other problems that come up, feel free to check in with me."
Omega19x: *nod*
Omega19x: "And if Shogi is still out there waiting, tell him to Fuck Off again."
Omega19x: *pats Ryou gently on the back*
